ScientificResearch and Education

Located in Changxing Island Country Park, the experimental station of Shanghai Citrus Research Institute is mainly engaged in the introduction and breeding of new citrus varieties, scientific research and development, technical services, training, demonstration, and promotion.

Based on authoritative scientific research, it is an orthodox research tour combining education with pleasure, which is by no means a quick tour to glance over things hurriedly.

The Shanghai Citrus Science Popularization Base consists of five sections, namely, the Citrus Science Popularization Museum, the Citrus Variety Garden, the Picking Experience Garden, the Citrus Seedling Cultivation Area, and the Post-picking Treatment Area. It introduces the origin culture, historical development, seed breeding, science popularization, and industrial extension of citrus, so that every participant can have an in-depth experience!

Citrus Science Popularization Museum

To enable children to better understand the local citrus culture and history, Shanghai Citrus Science Museum was opened. Located in Changxing Island Country Park, it was completed in 2020.

The museum was jointly designed by Qianwei Citrus Company, Shanghai Citrus Research Institute, and Zhejiang Citrus Research Institute. It covers an area of 1,000 square meters, including a 600-square-meter indoor exhibition hall and a 400-square-meter outdoor exhibition hall.

The museum is composed of five halls themed preface, culture, history, science popularization, and derivation. It teaches knowledge about the spread and evolution of the world's citrus. In addition to the exhibition of the featured product of satsuma mandarin, it has also designed many vivid science popularization exhibits.

Citrus Variety and Knowledge

There are about 200 citrus varieties in the variety garden, covering citrus, orange, pomelo, lemon, and other products. Children can recognize and learn comprehensive agricultural knowledge of citrus. Maybe the next academician of agricultural science will be among them.

HappyPicking and Farming

The picking garden is located in the Changxing Island Country Park, with two areas of protected cultivation and open field cultivation. The main varieties are Miyagawa, Hongmeiren, Ganping, etc. Children can come here to enjoy the fun of picking.

Cutting-edge Agricultural Technology

After learning the citruses and how to pick them, the children can enter the production line to have some knowledge about modern technology in agricultural production. The non-harm citrus sorting equipment in the production area is used to grade citruses, and the weight, size, flaw, soluble solids, and acidity of citruses can be graded through the built-in weight sensor, photoelectric sensor, and sugar acid detection equipment. It can be an eye-opener for the children!

Citrus Production

A modern citrus seedling base is under construction. Covering an area of 20 mu, including 10 mu of greenhouse and 10 mu of open land, it adopts modern technologies such as intelligent greenhouses, fertilizer and water integration, container seedling breeding, etc., and displays a series of breeding technologies such as citrus sowing, grafting, transplanting, etc.

This area, currently in the planning and construction stage, will be completed in 2021.
