The 2025 Ironman 70.3 Shanghai Chongming will take place on May 25 at Bright Tian Yuan on Chongming Island.

The race, which is the only Ironman 70.3 event in China offering World Championship qualifying slots, has drawn 14 elite triathletes and enthusiasts from around the globe. Notable competitors include Nina Derron, who is the sister of Paris Olympics women's triathlon silver medalist Julie Derron and completed her first triathlon when she was only 6 years old; Nicole Van Der Kaay from New Zealand, who ranked 20th in the World Triathlon Ranking; Nicholas Free, the winner of the Ironman 70.3 Sunshine Coast; and Justin Metzler, runner-up at the Ironman 70.3 Xiamen 2017.

Participants will tackle a challenging course comprising 1.9 kilometers of swimming, 90 km of cycling, and 21.1 km of running, vying for 30 World Championship slots and 50 Ironman 70.3 World Championship slots.

The course design integrates Chongming's many ecological landscapes: the swimming course is set in a 179-hectare ecological lake with water quality meeting national Class II surface water standards; the cycling course runs along Beiyang Highway, a former Women's Ironman World Championship route; and the running course weaves through lakes, flower fields, and meadows, offering a picturesque experience.
