Plum blossom is ranked the first of the top ten famous flowers in China, dubbed one of the Four Gentlemen of the Garden together with orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum, also known as one of the Three Friends of Winter together with pine and bamboo. In traditional Chinese culture, plum blossom inspires people to work hard with its noble, persevering and humble character. In severe cold, plum blossoms are the first flower to bloom, signaling the arrival of spring. With gnarled branches, these flowers are white and elegant, blooming in late winter and early spring. When grown in a pot or a yard, they give a beautiful view.

Follow the Panyuan Highway eastward to Yuansha. You'll pass the Yaqu Valley on Manligang Road, then the green space north of Panyuan Highway and west of Renjian Road, and the Henghe Park southwest of Yugang Jiayuan, finally the First Beach of the Yangtze River. At these scenery spots, you may take photos of various plum blossoms and feel the breath of spring. Look, snow-white flowers are blooming, magpies and seagulls are flying in groups.

At the crossing of Panyuan Highway and Juyuan Road east of the Changxing Island Monument, which stands at the exit of the Yangtze River Tunnel Bridge, the plum blossoms here bloom the earliest on Changxing Island. Some start to bloom during the Great Cold period, signaling the arrival of spring on time. From then on, this place turns into an ideal spot for taking beautiful photos of plum blossoms, whether it is sunny, rainy or snowy, whether it is during the day or at nightfall.

South of the Jiangnan Shengyan Restaurant, there are only a few plum blossom trees. But the magenta plum blossoms here against the background of the yellow walls compose a beautiful ancient painting in camera.

Go on westward along Panyuan Highway and come to Guixiang Garden. East of the Fenglai Pavilion there is a plum blossom garden, where tourists may take a rest and enjoy plum blossoms. Against the classical pavilion, the scene displays a tranquil beauty of the plum blossoms in the Yangtze River Delta.

At the North Ring River Eco-corridor grow a large number of white plum blossoms and a small number of red ones. Generally, the flowers bloom late, but their flower season may last until late March.
