Chongming's All-Crab Feast, Ready to Join?

As autumn brings cooler breezes, it's the prime season for Chongming's freshwater crabs. At the Chongming Flower Expo Guesthouse, chefs have prepared an elaborate all-crab feast. Let's take a look.

The "All-Crab Feast" features a wide array of dishes made from Chongming's freshwater crabs, including steamed crab, chilled drunken crab, crabmeat fried rice, and cheese-baked crab. Each dish is a mouthwatering delight. The crabs are meticulously prepared, using every part – the meat, roe, claws, legs, and shells.

 

The highlight of the feast is the "Steamed Hairy Crab." Its quality and flavor are immediately apparent with just one bite. Perfectly cooked with minimal seasoning, the crab's natural sweetness is showcased. Chongming's freshwater crabs are at their richest and most delicate during this season, offering a lingering, subtly sweet aftertaste.

Drunken crab, a delicious fusion of crab and wine, is a seasonal must-have from the golden crab season in September and October, lasting until May of the following year. A Chongming table without drunken crab seems incomplete.

 

Crab-stuffed oranges, a traditional autumn delicacy with a history of seven to eight hundred years, dates back to the Southern Song dynasty. The dish features a thick and savory crab filling inside an orange, blending the sweet and tangy orange flesh with the rich crab, creating a unique and complex flavor.

Beyond tasting the all-crab feast, you can also turn crab shells into art here. Paint anything you wish on the shells, transforming ordinary crab shells into exquisite works of art.
