Shanghai Chongming High School was established in 1915. In 2007, being a state-run full-time boarding school with modernized facilities, it was nominated as a demonstration as well as experimental high school of Shanghai. The campus occupies 265 acres, with more than 50,000 square meters being covered in green. The construction surface reaches more than 71,000 square meters. The school is prepared with advanced educational equipment and living facilities, and has grand architects. In the high school, there locate the school television station, broadcasting station, multifunctional auditorium, electronic reading room, consulting center, driving simulation laboratories, students’ language lab, as well as more than 30 standardized laboratories for physics, chemistry and biology. The school library is in possession of more than 100,000 books, 785 kinds of magazines, and 156 kinds of newspaper. The total asset of the school reaches RMB 0.35 billion.

For almost a hundred years, the school has inherited the motto inscribed by the famous mathematician Su Buqing: “Have your ambitions high and constantly strive to be stronger”. Correct schooling direction has been maintained, and its special education characteristic of “autonomous education” was formed. A school with new style is being built, with a high starting point, high quality and high level. International cooperation with educational institutes of other countries was encouraged, and cooperation with a number of schools from Australia, Korea, Singapore and the United States has been achieved.

Currently, the school has a working staff of 225 members (191 members as full-time teachers), among which there are 5 teachers of special classification, 2 headmasters (secretariat) of special classification, as well as 78 senior teachers. Also, the staff includes 6 famous teachers of the county level, 6 leaders in related disciplines, 2 county’s teaching models. Two teachers are the host of the Famous Teachers’ Base of Shanghai, four teachers belong to the expert team of the cultivation base of famous teachers in Shanghai. In addition, there are 5 studios for famous teachers of the county level.

The current headmaster is Wu Weiguo (headmaster of special classification, middle school math teacher of special classification), with Wang Siyi and Liu Li as vice headmasters (both of whom are senior teachers in high school). Chen Jian is the headmaster assistant (middle school senior teacher).
