The 2018-2019 China Taekwondo Contest for Secondary School Students (Shanghai Station) and training camp for primary school students opened in Chongming District Sports Center recently. This contest is the 16^th contest in 2019. More than 400 contestants from 41 teams in Shanghai, Nanjing and Anhui participated in the contest.

The opening ceremony was held accompanied by the solemn national anthem. Chengqiao Middle School Education Group made a brief introduction on how the school organized students to learn Taekwondo in recent years. Taekwondo, originated in ancient Korea, is a combative sport item that takes hands and feet as attack weapons. This sport item was officially introduced in China since 1992.

Liang Enfu, chairman of CSSF Taekwondo Branch, made a retrospect on the achievements that Chinese students had made on Taekwondo contests worldwide and hoped that contestants would make more outstanding achievements on global contests and win glory for the schools and the country.

We have made an inspection in Chongming. Chongming pupils love Taekwondo. We are glad to see it. For this reason, we choose Chongming as the host for this contest.

The contest consists of two sections: Poomsae and athletics. 40 athletes from Chongming District participated in this contest. All of them are members of the Chongming Shangwu Jingying Taekwondo Club.

Xia Chengbin, founder of Chongming Shangwu Jingying Taekwondo Club: Poomsae focuses on routine, and athletics focuses on combat. Athletics is a contest item of Olympics and Poomsae is a contest item of world championship. We have nurtured 16 national champions and more than 20 national first-class athletes. So far we have offered training to about six to seven thousand athletes.

Winners of the champion, runner-up and the second runner-up will participate in the final of China Taekwondo Contest for Secondary School Students.
