The Hengsha Civil Sports Center is hitting the most exciting match season during the height of summer time.

　　From 30 June to mid-July, the venue is hosting five major events: three rounds of the FIBA International Qualifying Tournaments, the Chinese Men's 3x3 Basketball Super League Chongming Regional Tournament and the National U18 3x3 Basketball Championship, thereby establishing a complete progression pathway from youth talent development through to the domestic professional circuit and global international tours. This series of events will not only consolidate the foundations of China’s Olympic preparations for 3x3 basketball but also boost the island’s cultural and tourism economy through top-tier competitions, thereby comprehensively enhancing Hengsha’s reputation as “China’s Premier Island for 3x3 Basketball”.

　　The three FIBA Qualifying Tournaments held in Hengsha are all officially recognized by FIBA as ranking events, and will all count towards the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic 3x3 basketball ranking system. They represent a golden opportunity for Chinese teams to compete for places in the Global Masters and accumulate Olympic ranking points on home soil. The champions of each of the three tournaments will qualify directly for the three major International Masters tournaments in Macau, Zaisan (Mongolia) and Manama (Bahrain). The points earned from participation will also count towards the country’s total points, directly influencing the FIBA national rankings at the end of 2027 and determining whether China men’s 3x3 basketball team can secure a direct qualification spot for the Los Angeles Olympics.

　　The 2026 Chinese Men’s 3x3 Basketball Super League took place from 3 to 5 July, and it's the country’s only top-tier 3x3 basketball league with a fully professional system. It is also a core professional competition distinct from all grassroots amateur and youth tournaments. This Chongming regional tournament will bring together 18 registered professional clubs, including Shanghai Hengsha Yumin and Ningbo Haishu Jieying, which have competed simultaneously in Divisions A and B.

　　As the league implements full-time player registration, a standardised salary system and rules governing the participation of foreign players, with the annual points tally directly determining the national team selection list, this means the competition serves as the sole official platform for national team players to hone their skills and for professional players to develop. It's also a complete showcase of the highest level of competition in Chinese professional 3x3 basketball, making it a highly prestigious event.

 　　The National U18 3x3 Basketball Championship is a flagship national youth competition organised by the Chinese Basketball Association. It brings together elite U18 teams from provinces and municipalities across the country and serves as a key platform for assessing the overall standard of youth 3x3 basketball nationwide and identifying potential talent for the national youth squad. The tournament results are linked to the certification of athletes’ rankings and selection for the national youth training camp. This helps to address shortcomings in domestic youth 3x3 basketball training, whilst using high-level competition to drive schools and sports schools nationwide to improve their youth training systems. It systematically enhances the overall competitive strength of domestic youth 3x3 basketball and supplies more promising talent to the professional leagues.

 　　The organisers pointed out that by concentrating this series of events in Hengsha, a complete development chain will be established, comprising of the “U18 youth development – the Super 3 Professional League – FIBA International Tournaments”. The national U18 competitions will nurture young talent and boost the island’s economy; the country’s only professional 3x3 league will establish a mature professional pathway; and the three international qualifying tournaments will enable teams to secure Olympic ranking points and aim for the Los Angeles Olympics. The tournaments will also continue to deepen Chongming’s integrated development model that brings together ecology, sports, cultural and tourism, further consolidating Chongming’s status as a national benchmark for 3x3 basketball. The series of events will continue to showcase Hengsha as a model for hosting nationwide events, using basketball as a vehicle to tell the story of the development of a world-class ecological island, and contribute to the high-quality development of China’s 3x3 basketball through professionalisation, internationalisation and integrated youth development.
