While green covers the eyes in midsummer, this flower is full of red. Recently, crape myrtle in various parts of Chongming has entered its peak flowering period, with bright and beautiful flowers hanging densely on the branches. What a beautiful scenery in the green summer sky. The crape myrtle in Dongping National Forest Park is somewhat unique, with some featuring unique vase designs and some trees as long as a thousand years old, attracting many tourists to take photos and pay a visit.

Walking into Dongping National Forest Park and strolling within the Crape Myrtle Garden, you can see that the trunks of some crape myrtle trees on both sides of the flower path are somewhat different from the general ones, resembling Guanyin Treasure Vases, whose bodies are woven from crape myrtle strips, and the crape myrtle flowers above the vase mouths are blooming, as if they are inserted into the vases, particularly dazzling against the blue sky and white clouds.

Crape myrtle is a widely cultivated flowering tree, native to China and highly adaptable to the environment, with a lifespan of hundreds to thousands of years. In addition to vase-shaped crape myrtle, there are also many transplanted ancient stumps planted in the crape myrtle garden. Among them, there are 4 trees with a thousand-year-old age, more than 20 trees with an age of 800 years, and a large number of old stumps over a hundred years old, which are of great ornamental value. These ancient crape myrtle stumps are majestic and upright, significantly higher than other crape myrtles.

A staff of Dongping National Forest Park introduced to us that there are about 2,000 crape myrtle trees planted in the garden, covering almost all the colors of crape myrtle flowers. White, red, pink, and purple flowers can all be seen in the garden. Due to the weather, this year, the crape myrtles bloom even more luxuriantly than before.

The flowering period of crape myrtle is long, from early summer to late autumn, and the entire plant has a flowering period of up to 4 months. Therefore, it is also nicknamed Hundred Day Red. If you are interested, you can come here to have a look.
